In the spring of 2009 a small number of workshops were on offer with pianist Chris Achenbach and singer June James. To quote from the promotion "These will be half day morning workshops were a chance to have high quality jazz in the school and an opportunity for the children to participate." And didn't they just join in. The first workshops were held in March at Duns Primary with over 140 children taking part - in fact the whole school got involved in listening and singing with June James and percussing along with Chris Achenbach's piano playing. The buzz in the school by the end of the morning was fantastic. You could have powered Duns on the energy for a week at least. After the Easter break three more workshops were squeezed in before the end of term - all with June and Chris. These were held in Lilliesleaf, Gordon and Walkerburn schools - so a fair geographical spread. The the groups and the schools were smaller the enthusiasm was just as great and the feed back from the staff and children equally positive.
